Features

ABI Attachments is known worldwide for “Innovation… not imitation”! The attachments we design are made in the United States, unique, and are full of features that separate us from our competitors. The Gravel Grader is no different! With features such as Coiled Springs, Crown Control capabilities, and an adjustable grading box, the Gravel Grader is the only gravel attachment that will do real work from behind a riding lawnmower!

The patented Coiled Springs of the Gravel Grader allow the forgiveness needed to pull through tough areas. When using the wireless remote, the actuator will transfer a measured amount of downward force, from your mower, to the grader box. These Coiled Springs give you an exact amount of grading action without “spinning out”. When other grading attachments leave you stuck in the middle of a job…the Coiled Springs of the Gravel Grader guarantee you, and your gravel driveway, success.

Reversible Grading Blade - The 1/2″ thick grading blade can be flipped to expose rock teeth to feather and sift material or a solid blade to move material without sifting.

Grader Box

The Gravel Grader comes with a 48″ grader box with ripping teeth that will loosen up to 1¾” deep! Unlike many of our competitors, whose loosening teeth only penetrate 1/8″ at a time, the Gravel Graders ripping teeth do real work, ensuring the driveway has enough loosened gravel to properly grade, producing a smooth driving surface. These ripping teeth are adjustable and easily replaced, making them the most effective ripping teeth, for a mower designed gravel grader, on the market. The Grading Box has a pitch control, which is critical to its effectiveness. By lengthening or shortening the adjustable link, you can create more ripping or grading action depending on the results needed at the time.

Reversible Grading Blade

The 1/2″ thick grading blade can be flipped to expose rock teeth to feather and sift material or a solid blade to move material without sifting.

Wireless Actuator - The actuator system can be controlled via an included wireless key fob remote, allowing the operator to adjust the tool's position without leaving the tow vehicle.

Wireless Actuator

The Gravel Grader comes standard with an electric actuator when most of our competitors make their actuators optional. Some competitors even tie an inexpensive actuator to a cable system that inevitably will rust, seize and break. The ABI actuator is commercial grade, has an 8″ stroke, and is weather sealed for longevity. Using the wireless electric actuator’s downward force on the springs and grading box, the hitch of the Gravel Grader tops out against the mower using the weight of the operator and mower to put applied force to the loosening and grading action. The actuator can be connected to your mowers battery or to an onboard battery. (The onboard battery is not included)

Crown Control - The ABI Gravel Grader and TR3 Rake utilize a 'Crown Control' mechanism to re-establish the ideal center-high, sloped shape on driveways for proper drainage. It works by pulling, grading, and spreading gravel from the edges to the center, preventing washboarding and potholes.

Crown Control

The Gravel Grader’s grading box has an easy to use “crown control’ mechanism that makes it the ONLY gravel grader, for a riding mower, that can pull your loose gravel from the edges of your driveway and properly re-establish a crown. And to assist with the “recapturing” of gravel that’s lost to the sides of the driveway, the Gravel Grader comes standard with a “gravel capture” wing that is easily attached and removed.

Stabilizing wheels on ABI gravel grader.

Stabilizing Wheels

The Gravel Grader is balanced and stabilized by two substantial gauge tires which not only create a “ground plane” for the grader box, but also work in conjunction with the “coiled spring action” giving the Gravel Grader its unique and patent pending “controlled force”. Because the wheels create a “ground plane” with the mowers wheels, leveling a gravel driveway is far more attainable.

Gravel Grader Controlled Force

Controlled Force Technology

It is critical to understand why the ABI Gravel Grader works, when other driveway groomers fail! It is the physics behind our coiled springs and the applied “controlled force technology” that comes from the weight of the operator and mower! This innovative and patented technology eliminates the old fashioned practice of adding concrete blocks to the grader so it can dig into hard packed gravel and actually work. Using the wireless electric actuator’s downward force on the springs and grading box, the hitch of the Gravel Grader tops out against the mower using the weight of the operator and mower to put applied force to the loosening and grading action. One of the failures of simply applying weight to a competitor’s frame is that when the loosening and grading components hit compacted gravel, or carry too much material, the mower or tractor will spin out, making the grader useless. This is not true with the Coiled Springs of the ABI Gravel Grader! These “Coiled Springs” will allow the forgiveness needed to pull through tough areas. When using the wireless remote, the actuator will allow a measured amount of downward force to the grader box. This combination gives you an exact amount of grading action without “spinning out”.

Crown Control vs. Un-crowned Control

Crown Control

Being able to properly shed rainwater helps minimize reoccurring potholes and the “washboarding” that plagues so many gravel driveways! The Gravel Grader’s grading box has an easy to use “crown control” mechanism that makes it the ONLY gravel grader, for a riding mower, that can pull your loose gravel from the edges of your driveway and properly re-establish a crown. To assist with the “recapturing” of gravel that is lost to the sides of the driveway, the Gravel Grader comes standard with a “gravel capture” wing that is easily attached and removed.

Ground Plane Effect, utilized by ABI Attachments in their land planes and gravel graders, creates a stable, level surface for grading by placing the grading box between two sets of wheels (front and back/gauge tires).

Ground Plane Effect

With over 50 years of contractor grading experience to draw from, ABI Attachments knows that the design of a grader, no matter how big or small, should be with the grading box placed between two sets of wheels, creating a “ground plane” for the most effective grading possible. We could not leave that design out of the Gravel Grader! The Gravel Grader is balanced and stabilized by two substantial gauge tires which not only create a “ground plane” for the grader box, but also work in conjunction with the “coiled spring action” giving the Gravel Grader its unique and patent pending “controlled force”.

I have a huge gravel driveway. I looked at hiring it out and the qoutes I recieved were to say the least VERY HIGH.I went looking for the best homeowner gravel grader that I could use without buying a tractor and ran across a few companies that manufacture them and then I narrowed it down to two companies. DR and ABI they both make a quality product from what they advertise one was a little cheaper in price, so I couldn't decide so I went to the reveiws that customers had left and found that ABI had alot of customers that wrote very highly of there product. So I got a hold of Tyler and received a qoute and was a little shocked at the price so I ponder the purchase and went back to looking around. Finally after much work and time spent on trying to find something just as good but at a cheaper cost I was steered back to ABI.lol.... I have just used the attachment this weekend and I must say I am impressed.... I am grateful that I have it and my driveway looks amazing. I will attach pictures later.. I just want to say money well spent and its made in this amazing country of ours.... Thank You Tyler Ormsby you were great to communicate with and work with.

Overall not a bad little piece of equipment. Takes time to cut into the hard pack but once it starts it does good.

Larry Spreckelmeier ★★★★★ Mar 7, 2023

My experience was very good. I felt very well taken care of and spoke with people that know what they’re doing and they care about the product and the customer. The fit and finish of the product is very nice. It appears to be powder coated, which is a good finish for products like this. I was also delighted to see that most of the product is assembled.

My sales rep Korey was very helpful. I had concerns my ATV (Honda rancher 350) could pull the Gravel Grader up my 1/2 mile very steep drive in the NC mountains. While it did struggle a little when dragging material it was manageable. The Grader is a great fit for my road. I was paying $1000 to have someone else do the work so the Grader will be paid for very soon.

First of all, I gave this unit 3 stars only because it's to light weight for my road application. Some of the portions of my road are so compacted, they are like sidewalks. I set the sacrificing teeth to less than half an inch, and within my 3rd of a mile road, I broke 3 teeth. I ended up breaking 10 for the afternoon of grading. The teeth break where the threaded portion begins. I purchased extras which was a good thing. Once the road is in better shape, it wont be as hard on the grader. Conclusion, I should've purchased the rascal.

Love my gravel grader; works as advertised. I have used it many times, and also have used it for grading/leveling dirt when seeding new lawn areas, etc. My only regret is I ordered with simply clamps to connect to the tractor battery. After a couple of uses, I wired in a DC plug, so I could plug into the power outlet on my tractor. Wish I would have ordered the grader a few years earlier than I did.

Abi has been the best customer service and shipping was far and easy. My grader has out performed my expectations. I've been working around road equipment most of my life and this small machine works as well as a large commercial unit for a lot less money highly recommended

What an AWESOME tool. The ABI Gravel Grader came on a pallet fully assembled except for connecting the wiring harnesses to my Lawn Tractor and the hitch. I was able to rip up our 150 Ft loop driveway, smooth the surface and crown it in about 3 hrs. That includes me learning how to do it since I had never grade a drive before and someone that has could probably do it quicker. It was easy to figure out and being able to raise and lower the rippers as I felt my lawn tractor start to slip helped me avoid spinout. I am totally impressed and highly recommend the ABI Gravel Grader to anyone with a gravel drive and an RTV/UTV/lawn tractor. KUDOS ABI

Good design overall with one major flaw, actuator top has a pressed cap which breaks easily, solid tube would be more reliable otherwise machine works as advertised and company is very responsive to replacing broken parts

Sandy ★★★★☆ Jul 29, 2020

Very good and easy to use. The folks at ABI are a class act. Customer service is great. My only complaint were the tines broke fairly easily. They sent me plenty of new ones to replace. Highly recommend.
